Vijender beats Zulpikar to win WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title

Indian professional boxer  Vijender Singh  outslugged his Chinese opponent  Zulpikar Maimaitiali  to retain the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title and win the  WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title.  In the pro boxing bout, termed as 'Battleground Asia',  at Mumbai,  Vijender recorded a unanimous decision win over his Chinese opponent and continued his undefeated streak. It was  Beijing Olympic  bronze medallist's ninth successive win in his professional career.

Akshay Kumar Roped in as Brand Ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today announced the appointment of Bollywood actor  Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Mission  in the state. The chief minister also announced to make the film tax-free in the state. The chief minister also released the film’s toilet anthem, ‘Karle Toilet Ka Jugar’, which has been sung by the actor himself.

Mughalsarai to be Renamed as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Railway Station

The Centre recently approved the Adityanath-led UP government’s proposal to rename the  Mughalsarai railway station  after the Jan Sangh leader as  Deen Dayal Upadhyaya ( DDU ) station. This comes as the part of the state government’s attempt to revive the legacy of Upadhyaya who died in 1968. The UP government in its proposal pointed to the mysterious death of Upadhyaya at the Mughalsarai station as one of the primary reasons to rename the station. Venkaiah Naidu Is New Vice President of India

Venkaiah Naidu  is going to succeed  Hamid Ansari  as the new Vice-President of India. Naidu’s victory was a foregone conclusion, the NDA candidate having the support of a majority of MPs who ally with the BJP. The  Election Commission said that 771  votes were polled, of which 760 were valid and 11 were valid. Venkaiah Naidu secured 516 and Gopalkrishna Gandhi 241 votes. Leading Economist Rajiv Kumar to be new NITI AAYOG Vice Chairman

Rajiv Kumar, a leading economist and former secretary general of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will take over as the new Vice-Chairman of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, the governments go-to policy think tank. Kumar, a former CEO of Delhi-based think-tank Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), will replace Arvind Panagariya, who will return to teaching at Columbia University after his term ends later this month. Kumar is currently the founding director of Pahle India Foundation, a non-profit research organisation that specialises in policy-oriented research and analysis. He is also chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Economics and Politics in Pune. Until January this year, he was a senior fellow at Centre for Policy Research (CPR), and is widely regarded for his work in the areas of Indias economy and national security.
